Service Description

Experience the Scottish Highlands in winter, when the landscapes take on a quieter, more dramatic beauty. From frosty glens and misty mountains to crisp winter light and snow-dusted peaks when conditions allow, this is a memorable time to explore. We’ve put together two wonderful route options so you can experience some of the very best of this beautiful region. You can relax and take in the changing winter scenery while your experienced guide safely navigates the winding Highland roads. Between stops, we love sharing local folklore, Highland culture, clan history, tartans and kilts. Some of our featured attractions involve optional hiking, and in winter we will always take weather and ground conditions into account. MAIN ATTRACTIONS (not limited to): ★ Loch Cluanie: A stunning mountain loch with winding roads and dramatic winter scenery. ★ Glen Shiel: A steep-sided historic glen, especially striking in the quieter winter landscape. ★ Eilean Donan Castle: Closed to visitors during winter, but its iconic setting is still well worth a scenic photo stop from the outside. ★ Skye Bridge: The scenic gateway to the Isle of Skye, with sweeping winter views across Loch Alsh. ★ Sligachan: A beautiful stop beneath the Cuillin Mountains, known for its stone bridge, river and Highland folklore. ★ Portree: Skye’s colourful capital, with its picturesque harbour, local shops and cosy lunch options. FEATURE ATTRACTION OPTIONS These routes are chosen to make the most of Skye’s shorter winter days and seasonal scenery. For the smoothest experience, we recommend choosing one option rather than mixing them. ROUTE OPTION 1: Trotternish Peninsula (Highly Recommended) ★ Old Man of Storr: Skye’s iconic rock pinnacle above a rugged winter landscape. ★ Quiraing: A spectacular landslip with sweeping winter views. ★ Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls: Dramatic sea cliffs and a 55-metre waterfall on Skye’s wild coast. ★ The Fairy Glen (if time permits): A magical landscape with a peaceful winter atmosphere. ROUTE OPTION 2: Minginish Peninsula ★ Fairy Pools: Crystal-clear pools and waterfalls beneath the Cuillin Mountains. ★ Talisker Distillery: Skye’s oldest working whisky distillery and a cosy winter stop. OTHER ATTRACTIONS (if time permits): ★ Loch Ness ★ Macrae Memorial ★ Lealt Falls ★ Kyleakin ★ Rigg Viewpoint
